About the event
Nowadays, the Friulian Epiphany is characterized by an intense eve, on 5th January, thanks to the”pignarulars” , the creators of the bonfires that will be set alight on the evening of the 6th of January. They will compete in a thrilling race with fiery carts for the prestigious prize awarded by the Old Venerable, the pivotal figure of the Epiphany ritual. hen evening approaches on the 6th of January, the historic procession will run through the crowd along the town centre streets. The Venerable will tell stories of ancient Epiphanies and then ascend in a torchlight procession towards Coia. He will be followed by thousands of torches which will create a spectacular ribbon of fire along the hill’s curves. The Old Venerable, a symbolic grandfather and narrator figure lights the great bonfire, the Pignarûl Grant and predicts according to the smoke direction, the new year’s trend. A magnificent fireworks display will close the event.
