Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are beyond belief in this powerfully touching movie (based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play by August Wilson) that explores the messy, multifaceted, shameful and proudful relationships of a family.
There are times when, in the presence of something bigger than yourself, you become lost both in your admiration and contemplation. Performances such as those given by the cast are powerful, nuanced and elegant. Dialogue (as in the movie quotes in the title above and below) is both real and poetic underlining the genius of artists that can capture and translate into a manner recognizable to all, the human condition.
If ever there was a time that I came out of myself, it was while watching this film.
“my first mistake was to not make some room for me when he filled up a room” “Sometimes when he cut, he bruised”
Incredible scenes such as Denzel Washington’s character’s dialogue with God, or his face to face in the garden with his wife are mesmerizing.
A true gem that had me freely weeping, flailing, lashing out, realizing, accepting and forgiving.
Cathartic! Fences is a must see!
